Expanding Horizons

At Mesa Community College, programs, activities and resources offer meaningful learning opportunities for students to expand their horizons beyond classroom learning, including study abroad programs, and provide a nurturing environment to international students. MCC also celebrates indigenous cultures with events that highlight community service and academic excellence.

MCC faculty program helps develop student skills for the global workforce

Mesa Community College (MCC) is one of only three colleges nationwide selected to participate in the Digital Promise faculty development program, launched as a pilot in 2024. Following its success, MCC faculty are continuing the initiative in 2025. The program helps faculty integrate global content into existing courses, giving students the opportunity to build skills needed to compete in today’s global economy. Digital Promise, a global education nonprofit working to expand opportunity for every learner, partners with the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) and the ECMC Foundation, to support the development of globally focused curriculum.

MCC and University of Guanajuato unveil impactful, collaborative art exhibit

A powerful cross-cultural collaboration between MCC and the University of Guanajuato (UG), Mexico culminated in a final art installation crafted by both groups working side by side. The program provided 12 students and faculty from UG and MCC an opportunity to collaborate on art pieces for exhibitions in each country.

Mesa Community College crowns new Miss Native MCC royalty

Raegen Ellis, Diné, was crowned Miss Native Mesa Community College and First Attendant Tanielle Klah, Diné, was sashed during a pageant at MCC. Ellis is pursuing an associate of arts with emphasis in social work. Klah is studying psychology at MCC. They are deeply committed to connecting with students, encouraging them to attend MCC by embracing pathways of healing, strength and resilience.

2025 MCC Pow Wow

Native American dancers, drummers, authentic food and crafts were just a few highlights of the Thunderbird Social Pow Wow. The gathering provided a platform to showcase Indigenous cultures in an educational setting, offering students, faculty and the broader community an opportunity to engage with and learn about traditions with which they may not be familiar.

Sensory rooms and toolkits support students

Mesa Community College introduced Library Sensory Rooms, a supportive environment tailored to students with sensory sensitivities, to create a more accepting and calming space to support student learning.

MCC faculty-created Open Education Resources textbooks impact students on a global scale

Open Education Resources textbooks for public speaking and communication, created by MCC faculty members for the college’s Zero Textbook Degree program, are impacting students on a global scale. MCC's five Zero Textbook Degrees, or Z Degrees, are full degree paths that are 100% online and have zero textbook costs for all courses.

MCC libraries selected for National Library of Medicine traveling exhibition

The National Library of Medicine selected MCC libraries to host a traveling exhibition, Promising Future, Complex Past: Artificial Intelligence and the Legacy of Physiognomy. The exhibition explores the history of physiognomy and its influence on contemporary artificial intelligence and computer science technologies that gather and interpret body data.
